Cross Country and Nordic Skiing in Summit County

Nordic or Cross Country Skiing is a very popular sport in Summit County. With large expansive terrains to glide over, Nordic Skiing allows adventurers the opportunity to see areas in the mountains that are otherwise inaccessible (except by walking). Nordic Skiing is a very energy taxing activity and thus it is a great cardio workout and there are many places in Summit County to go cross country skiing. Cross Country skiing is an excellent way of getting exercise without the crowds on the slopes.

Keystone Nordic Center

Ski or snowshoe your way through the River Golf Course at Keystone with challenging hills and long easy descents. A full day pass is very reasonably priced, making it is an economical way to enjoy the area. Enjoy hot chocolate or a warm lunch at The Nordic Soup Bistro. On sunny days, relax on the outdoor patio. Keystone’s Nordic Center offers more than 17 kilometers of groomed trails and provides access to more than 40 kilometers of nearby trails through the White River National Forest (requiring a 3-5 mile drive to the trailheads). Everything you need for a great day of cross country skiing is available at the Nordic Center including skis, poles, and boots. There is also a tubing area here! The Nordic Center offers lessons and guided snowshoe tours throughout the winter season.

Located at the clubhouse for the River Golf Course on US Hwy 6, just past Swan Mountain Road. Please call the Keystone Nordic Center at 970-496-4275 for more information. Stay at Elk Run Villas to have the Nordic Center just outside your backyard!

Frisco NORDIC CENTER

Ticket options include day passes, punch card passes, and season passes for our Nordic Center trails.

You’ll find the Frisco Adventure Park just across the road from the Nordic Center (Recreation Way), with a  tubing hill. Find out more about the Frisco Nordic Center here.

Breckenridge NORDIC CENTER

Breckenridge is home to some of the most gorgeous areas in Summit County like the White River National Forest Sunshine, which sprawls between the Ten-mile Range and the Continental Divide. Trails wind through the woods, up mountainsides and sometimes through old mining ruins. Exploring the Rocky Mountains while on cross-country skis ensures spectacular views, a chance to visit with friends and family.

Stop by the Breckenridge Nordic Center  and start exploring what Breckenridge has to offer the Nordic Skier.

Backcountry SKIING

Many ungroomed trails thread the forests and mountainsides in Summit County. There’s also hut-to-hut skiing, thanks to huts that are part of the Tenth Mountain Hut System located in Summit County. The avalanche danger in Colorado’s backcountry is to be taken seriously. Only experienced backcountry skiers with knowledge of safe backcountry travel and appropriate equipment should ski there. It is recommended beginner backcountry skiers take guided trips. You can access trail maps, current snow conditions and backcountry equipment rentals at the Breckenridge and Frisco Nordic Centers.
